Why you shouldn't be waiting for external motivation from someone else?

28 March 2021 | 10 Min Read

The question arises that why and when we need motivation?

We seek for motivation when we lose hope and positivity from within ourself and unwantedly start to overthink things and situations which are irrelevant and which does exist in the first place. Rather than working on ourself, we tend to get used to it and accept the fact that there is nothing left in our life's which will make us happy, starting to get drown towards negativity. Isn't it?

Why does this happen?

The main reason for this is to lose hope in ourself. It maybe because of a business failure, relationship issues, break ups, losing your job, etc and we start to seek for approvals from people around us which means giving your power to another person for your happiness and motivation. When any of your near & dear ones couldn't help you out and fail to make you feel happy or satisfied and you turn to seek outside motivations i.e to Motivational speakers (Which is even worst)

Why you shouldn't do this?

The global personal development market size was valued at USD 38.28 billion in 2019 and is expected to grow (Thanks to Covid 19) at a compound annual growth rate of 5.1% from 2020 to 2027. (Increasing consciousness about self-recognition and the pursuit of happiness.)

Motivational speakers make you feel that what they are talking is relevant and relates to you and thousands of people listening to them feels the same. This might work for some people (Though for a short period) but not for everyone because obviously everyone is different in their ways and have different Personalities.

Which means that now you are giving your power to a person who doesn't even know your name.

Now how would you expect that they can help you out?

Their goal is to earn money and make profits and they are making millions through your depression and your unhappiness by selling you their online master class, books and courses, what they are selling you is "escapism" releasing dopamine in your mind making you feel motivated for a certain period, that's it. They don't want you to be happy, otherwise, how are they gonna make millions?

They just want to keep you hooked and get addicted so that you keep on buying their courses one after another and fall into the cycle of expectation that this course will work and make your life any better.

When you buy a course, you feel motivated for a short time, you start to think that this time it will work out with you but as the time moves you realise that it was temporary, meanwhile there is another book of self-improvement or the secret to happiness Or success, is out and your urge to buy it, again falling into the same trap.

Finally, after investing a lot of time and money you realise that this is not the permanent solution to your problems.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?

1. Have Patience

In today's world, we lack patience and want everything at light's speed.

For instance, taking the example of a Bamboo tree.

Bamboo takes about three years to get established. Once established the new shoots that emerge in the Spring. So you need to keep the Bamboo plant watering for 3 years until you see it making it to the ground.

You won't instantly see results every time you do something, you need to keep working and have patience. Someone who doesn't know this will Get demotivated often after 2 to 2.5 years and will stop watering, when the success was only 6 months ahead.

2. Know the process completely

If you don't know the whole process and how things work you won't be able to get results.

Taking the same instance of Bamboo,

If you plant the Bamboo tree in summers this may not get you the desired results as Usually bamboo planting is done in the rainy season.

3. Lack of having complete knowledge

Whatever subject you are working on the first try to acquire as much knowledge as you can.

4. Implementation of the above three points

Based on the knowledge you acquired, go data-driven and make decisions accordingly.

"The only person knows you the best is YOU"

Every self-improvement, motivation book or course will obviously tell you to do some actions. But what's the use of it when you are not willing to take any actions, if you were a practitioner then you wouldn't have been wasting your time and money on such things, you would be out there working on yourself, hustling, isn't it?

All you need to do is trick your mind, if you fail once, do it again, do it again, do it again, do it again, do it again until your mind says that okay we need to figure this out.

No one has ever had success without failure, no one.

Conclusion

What's good if you finished reading 100 books and completed 20 courses when you are not taking any action, not implementing the knowledge you gained in your actions and procrastinating your actions?

I truly believe that there is a Supreme power you should surrender yourself to it first and then turn to it seeking your answers and you'll find your way. I believe that each and everything is interconnected to each other in this universe.

Stop listening to people, stop talking and start doing.
Be a practitioner
Make a schedule, work on it
Take actions, failed once. try it again, do it again

Finally, I would like to conclude my blog with a Quote from RUMI
