Able to do anything, achieve any goal.
You're the maker of your universe, and you can create whatever you want.
You don't need anyone else's approval for your existence. You are enough on your own: one woman with her thoughts, goals, and dreams.
But it's so easy to get caught up in your day-to-day life that you forget who you are. That's why I'm here to remind you of 2 ways to be mindful of your day:
Mindfulness is all the rage these days, and for good reason.
We are increasingly busy and stressed out, which can lead to eating mindlessly and comfort food binges.
It's no secret that stressful days can add up to stressful weeks, and stress can leave you feeling like you're on an emotional roller coaster.
When we're not aware of our actions and body language, it becomes easy to fall into the habits that make us feel worse.
This is where mindfulness comes in.
You want to be more mindful of your day, but you don't know-how.
You're in the right place!
There are a lot of ways to be mindful of your day: mindfulness meditation, yoga, or eating well.
Here are 2 ways to be mindful of your day.
1. Awareness
Awareness is the first step toward mindfulness, and awareness helps you notice what's going on in your life.
First, be aware of how you feel every morning.
Make a note of it, so you can check where you're at when you start your day. Try relaxing for 10 minutes and then checking again if you don't feel great.
Then, throughout the day, notice what's happening around you. What are the sights? Sounds? Smells? Tastes?
ask yourself, "what am I doing right now?"
Then make a conscious decision about whether that is what you want to be doing.
You'll quickly get better at noticing them!
If not, change it!
Panic away from your computer if you find yourself reading a story or article that isn't related to work or self-growth.
Make sure that everything you view has a purpose.
After a while of doing this, take a moment to acknowledge yourself for all that you've done that day.
It might feel uncomfortable at first, but the more you do this, the easier it becomes.
This will help keep you focused on the positive things in life that energize and excite you.
Exercise
Enjoy every bite of your food.
Notice what you're doing when you eat it, and how it tastes as you eat it.
Focus on how your body feels after you finish eating it, instead of what other things you want to be doing with your time or if anyone's judging you at the moment.
2. Journaling
Journaling (writing about your day) has been proven to reduce stress and increase happiness.
Make time in your day to write in a journal about how the parts of the day made you feel. - one filled with positivity!
Set aside a few minutes each night to write down what happened during your day and how you feel about those events.
You'll become more aware of small details while doing this (like "I ate lunch alone", "I left my phone at my desk when I went out for the break")
This can be as simple as writing down snippets of dialogue between yourself and other people throughout the day, or it can be more complex thoughts and feelings based on what transpired at work or home.
- Write affirmations when you wake up and before you go to sleep
- After a while, you'll start to notice patterns and trends that can help.
- List what went well, and what you want to do better tomorrow.
- It's a great way to reflect on the day and plan for tomorrow.
Note
If you find that journaling isn't helping, try other things like walking outside or taking a bath.
Stay aware of your surroundings, and if you notice something that you like, tell yourself that you like it.
If there's something you don't like, tell yourself that you don't like it.
It may feel silly or insignificant at first; that's okay!
You're practicing noticing what's happening around you in real-time and acknowledging your contributions to it all.
Few tips
So, just in case it hasn't occurred to you yet, here are a few tips for being more mindful of your day:
- Notice what the weather is like outside at different times of day and in different seasons.
- Take note of little details around your house like how much toothpaste is in each tube or whether or not there are pieces leftover of your favourite meal after eating it.
- If something goes wrong during the day that makes you sad or angry, try to sit with those feelings instead of letting them run away with you and make you do something destructive like yelling at your partner, family, friends, or at your co-workers.
Conclusion
Mindfulness is an awesome thing because when you're mindful, you're aware of what you're doing every second of the day, and when you're aware that you're doing things, then you can do them better.
"I'm sure you can't help but wonder how you can be a better person"
Me, too...
I've been thinking about it all the time because it's very important to me.
It's important to me because I want to be a better person all the time.
No matter what.
And I know that's not easy. It's not!
But you know what is?
Be more mindful of your day.
